SHARPLESS, MARGARET, The Ledger of is a sequence of 78 black and white self-portraits combined with narrative text. Shot with an analog film camera on location at the former Milton National Bank in Milton, Pennsylvania (now the site of MAB), Sheehan isolated herself in the bank for an extended period of time in order to directly engage the spirits of the place. Dressed in period costume, Sheehan stepped back in time to 1918 and into the fictitious role of a spinster bookkeeper named Margaret Sharpless. Other shooting locations Newlyn Art Gallery, Cornwall, UK, and Schloss Plüschow, Mecklenburg, Germany.
